Our philosophy of community building by investing in people goes back nearly a century to the days of our first store on Main St. in old "Bradentown" Florida. Robert M. Beall believed in helping others and he acted on his convictions. He received many awards for his community service over a span of more than 60 years, dating back to the 1910's. While times and needs have changed, Bealls' commitment to helping others has not.
Today, the focus of Bealls charitable outreach touches four areas, with the greatest emphasis on Children/Youth and Education.
CHILDREN & YOUTH
Bealls is a longtime contributor to agencies that aid young people, including the United Way, March of Dimes, Police Athletic League, and Palmetto Youth Center.
For over 20 years the R. M. Beall Foundation has provided college scholarships to hundreds of employees and their dependants. Bealls Department Stores sponsors the "Bealls and Whistles" program, awarding funds for special school projects in the state of Florida.
Bealls awards annual scholarships for students in Criminal Justice education at the State College of Florida and the Manatee Technical Institute's Criminal Justice Academy. We also strongly support several recognition programs for law enforcement personnel.
Bealls cares strongly about the environment in which we live and work. We were early adopters of recycling programs at our headquarters and distribution centers. Bealls is a member of the SmartWay Transportation Partnership, working for cleaner air by reducing carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide air pollutants. In addition, Bealls has contributed to the Nature Conservancy for its Gulf of Mexico shoreline work, and is a Partner of the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, helping support its mission to protect our marine environment.
